Description
The Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino Nature Park is a provincial protected area located in Trentino, north-eastern Italian Alps region. Its surface includes the Pale di San Martino and Lagorai mountain group. The territory extends between 1200 and 3200 m a.s.l. The area hosts several NATURA 2000 Network Sites.Specifically, the Park includes a SPA and three SAC, with high-altitude pasture environments interesting for varius species of conservation interest. The Park is divided in 3 zone categories, depending on the kind of land use and protection status: A zones correspond to “strict protection Reserve”, fully dedicated to conservation; B zones are “oriented Reserves”, with extensive agro-silvo-pastoral activities and limited human settlements; C zones comprise anthropic landscapes characterized by a sustainable use of agro-silvo-pastoral resources and infrastructured areas (guided Reserve).
The Paneveggio Pale San Martino Nature Park is an Italian protected area that plays an important role in biodiversity protection and monitoring: the naturalistic interest is also linked to the presence of rare and / or endemic species of flora and fauna, as well as the existence of species and environments in the annexes of the Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive.The Park Authority manages the protected area with particular attention to environmental conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources.
